Birkensauna is a sauna complex in Haan-Gruiten near Düsseldorf. According to the operator it has grown over decades and offers 11 saunas, 2 steam baths, an indoor and an outdoor pool, a hot whirlpool, a plunge pool, a massage studio and a sunbed studio.
The complex includes the Birkenstübchen restaurant with an open fireplace, a sun terrace with a bar and a large beer garden, plus relaxation rooms, a sleeping room and a sauna with a Himalayan salt crystal wall. The operator says infusions (Aufguss) run every hour and half hour and the pool water is 28–32 °C all year.

On the first Saturday of each month there is a Saunanacht XXL, open until 3:00. The main restaurant serves Mon–Thu 12:00–21:30, Fri–Sat 12:30–22:00, Sun and holidays 12:00–20:30.

On weekends and public holidays a 4.00 € surcharge applies to the day and Vario tickets. Overrunning the Vario tariff costs 2.50 € per 15 minutes (from 60 minutes the day-ticket price). The 11-visit cards are also available as vouchers.

Rules and good to know
- According to the operator it is a place of calm; children are allowed if they know the rules of sauna bathing and quiet
- Glasses are not taken into the sauna cabin because of burn risk; there are shelves in front of each cabin
- In the Himalayan salt sauna, conversation is discouraged and a stay of at least 30 minutes is recommended
- The fireplace sauna does not run above 30 °C outside or during forest-fire risk
- Infusions run every hour and half hour; the schedule is on the daily notice at the cabin
- Bath shoes, bathrobes and towels can be rented
Getting there
Bus 742 (Mettmann–Haan) stops at Lindenweg, about 10 m from the side entrance.
From Haan-Gruiten station (S8 and some regional trains) it is about 5 minutes on foot, slightly uphill.
The large car park is at Millrather Straße 30, 2–3 minutes on foot; the small Birkenweg car park is meant more for guests with limited mobility.
