About
Appenzeller Heilbad is a spa and sauna complex between Heiden, Trogen and Rehetobel in the canton of Appenzell, in hilly countryside between Lake Constance and the Säntis. According to the operator, its own mineral spring with a high sulphur content has been flowing here for over 300 years and feeds the indoor and outdoor pools.
The bath area includes two Kneipp grottos (cold 20 °C, warm 38 °C), a garden and a terrace with water beds. The sauna world has an outdoor Finnish sauna with a plunge pool, a herbal sauna (55 °C), a brine steam bath and a sauna garden; infusions (Aufguss) are done by staff. There are also massages, a gym, physiotherapy and a bistro.

Pool and sauna close half an hour before closing time. The women-only sauna is held from October to April on the first Thursday of the month from 12:00 (e.g. 5 Nov 2026, 3 Dec 2026); it does not take place in summer. Closed 24 and 25 Dec and during the revision 28 Jun–4 Jul 2027; New Year's Eve 8:30–19:00, New Year's Day 11:00–20:00.

Prices from the operator's price list, incl. VAT, subject to change. Weekends and holidays add CHF 3 to single entries. Exceeding 3 hours costs CHF 2 per half hour. Rentals: Spa set CHF 25, bath towel CHF 5, swimsuit CHF 5, bathrobe CHF 8 (plus CHF 30 deposit). Season tickets are also available.

- The saunas are textile-free and generally mixed; bathrobes and towels may be worn in other rooms and the sauna garden
- In the bath area opaque, appropriate swimwear is required
- Sauna entry from age 16; children under 12 only with an adult (18+)
- Only staff may run infusions in the saunas; own infusion products are banned
- A full-body shower is mandatory before the sauna and between sauna rounds
- Phones, cameras and tablets are banned; animals are not admitted
